A 60 Minutes Episode Worth Watching...

Debbra Groseclose, Director of Prevention, Community Based Care of Central Florida recently circulated the following link to a "60 Minutes" segment that aired On March 6, 2011. The piece -- which you can view by clicking here -- brings to light a painful truth that many of our state's youngest are dealing with on a daily basis.
The emotionally-powerful segment featuring Central Florida was titled, "Hard times generation: homeless kids" and discussed the challenges -- socially, emotionally and in education -- many children are facing due to homelessness.
While I found myself moved by the piece, I was alarmed to see that this is a major problem in my own community. It painted so clearly a picture of why the changes we are seeking to make at The Children's Movement are so vital. Without adequate health care, high-quality education, mentoring opportunities and parent skill-building efforts and many other basic necessities, Florida's children -- and the future of our state -- will be at risk.
