A strong showing in Broward

By John Knight, Early Literacy Coordinator on 01/11/2011 @ 02:22 PM

I recently had the pleasure of organizing a wonderful group of Broward County supporters to attend the January 7, 2011, Broward County legislative delegation meeting. Close to 50 supporters from all over Broward County took time from their busy schedules to gather together to show support for The Children’s Movement of Florida’s 2011 Legislative Platform. The group, dressed in Movement T-shirts and buttons, sat front and center making up nearly 2/3 of the total audience present. Our policy makers certainly saw and heard the importance of the Movement. The group of supporters included loving parents and grandparents as well as representatives from The United Way, Humana, AARP, Broward Healthy Start, Family Central, Children’s Services Council, Early Learning Coalition and the Jewish Federation of Broward County and many others.

Cindy Arenberg-Seltzer, President and CEO of the Children’s Services Council of Broward County gracefully delivered our agenda to the delegation emphasizing the need for the Children’s Services Councils, The Children’s Movement of Florida, and state legislators to work together in making Florida’s children its number one priority. The message was powerful and the showing of support energized the room. I want to thank Cindy and all the other dedicated individuals who have helped to organize meetings as well as stepped up to take on leadership roles in their communities.
