A trip to Ocala and Gainesville...

Do you ever wonder if there are still any "good people" out there? I'm always amazed by how many wonderful, caring people we have in our beautiful state. Dave and I made the long drive to Ocala yesterday morning to speak with the more than 100 members of the Marion County Children's Alliance, a group of representatives from child-centered organizations from around the county. We showed them "I am Florida" and the CNN coverage, and Dave made the case for children in Florida. The response was tremendous.
See, when you're advocating for children's issues, you quickly realize that everyone loves children. The problem is this: Not enough people actually take the time to do something about the problems facing our children. I left the event excited by the dozens of people who approached me following the presentation. Several people from Devereux Kids, the Centers, and so many other wonderful organizations who are truly excited about participating in this movement.
Next stop, West Palm Beach...a little more motivated by the wonderful people of Marion County.
