Apps for Autism

I recently saw an episode of “60 Minutes” that truly caught my attention. It addresses the daily struggles of children with autism, specifically, their difficulty in communicating with others.
Joshua Hood, a 27-year-old man with autism, shows how the iPad has given him the ability to communicate. Before having an iPad, he often had to spell or act things out in order to convey his feeling or what he wants.
The second half of the segment examines the Beverly School in Toronto, Canada, where half the kids have severe cases of autism. They are currently undergoing a study to show the impact of using iPads to teach and engage these young children with autism.
Technology is the not the answer for all children with autism, but it is proving to be an amazing tool for many autistic children around the world. You can watch the segment here.
