First Lady Ann Scott, Florida's New Chief Child Advocate
By David Abrams, State Coordinator (North FL) on 06/17/2011 @ 10:26 AM
The Florida and Youth Cabinet met this week for the first time under Gov. Rick Scott's administration, revealing First Lady Ann Scott as new Chief Child Advocate. Ann Scott stated, "the cabinet has made tremendous strides in aligning policies, maximizing scarce resources and coordinating services across departments to work in the best interest of children."
The cabinet has been struggling to be effective in a number of child issues, particularly two that align directly with The Children's Movement of Florida agenda:
1) Percentage of uninsured children
2) Cuts to VPK funding.
Dave Lawrence said that he was "delighted to hear about the First Lady's new role. She will be in a key position to make a difference in children's lives and futures. I hope she will be at every meeting of the Children's Cabinet."
I personally comprehend the challenging economic situation our state is up against. However, "maximizing scarce resources" is not an excuse for depriving our youth of the health, education, and well-being they deserve.
I do have faith Mrs. Scott will recognize that moving forward.
