It's about the "big picture"

It really is all about the big picture ….
Sometimes we get mired down in the details, whether with our own personal concerns or with our work.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had many conversations about the Children’s Movement of Florida platform for 2011. Several people have asked questions about specific details in the platform that relate to their own personal or professional concerns. As a parent of a child with special needs, I’m just as likely as anyone else to worry about my own specific concerns.
One conversation I had recently made me realize that we all have to step back and look at the “big picture,” and see that if we start with items that have been shown to have broad support throughout the state, we can begin to effect changes that can have a real impact on our children and our future.
During a discussion about the 2011 platform, Barbara Mainster, Executive Director of Redlands Christian Migrant Association (RCMA) read the entire document. Then she looked me in the eye and said “You know that I don’t agree with everything in this document. But what I can say for sure is that I support the Children’s Movement of Florida. What the Movement is doing is absolutely necessary for Florida and its children.”
We all need to remember the big picture and our number one goal: for our state to make children its highest priority.
