Making one little girl’s first day of Kindergarten extra special
A couple weeks ago, I participated in a few back-to-school events in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach. In addition to giving away from free bracelets, stickers, and buttons, I entered parents who signed up into a drawing for a backpack filled with school supplies. To some people, this may not mean much. To others, it means the world. My focus is on the latter.
Our winner for our Palm Beach event was Sheri Sawczyn. She responded immediately, saying it was for her cousin, Isabella, who was about to embark on her first day of Kindergarten. We talked for a while, as I learned about her favorite colors (of course it was pink) and her favorite shows (Dora the Explorer).
Upon receiving her backpack filled with pink notebooks, art supplies and many other school essentials, Sheri sent me pictures of them and shared how excited Isabella was about her new backpack and supplies. One of my favorite lines from Sheri was when she stated, “Isabella loved her backpack so much that we went out and she had to take it with us and wear it the whole night.” The heartwarming pictures reminded me of the kind of impact the simple things in life can have on some people, especially our youth. Sheri concluded her note saying, “Thank you again to you and the Children's Movement of Florida for making my cousins first day of Kindergarten extra special!”
