Summer has come and gone without breaking stride. School is certainly in the air. That means back to school events and school supplies are everywhere!
Thanks to the help of some dedicated volunteers in South Florida, we were able to participate in 3 different back to school events this past weekend (Delray, West Palm Beach and Miami). We spoke to hundreds of families about The Children’s Movement. These moments are some of the most rewarding times in our work. It is so important to connect with the parents and children that desperately need a hand during these difficult times.
Just yesterday I went out to Florida City to visit Branches, an afterschool care facility dedicated to providing education, social stimulation, and necessary resources to elementary, middle school and high students. From organizing their own fashion shows, to rock concerts, to soccer games, and back into the classroom, these kids get a chance to try it all.
I met nearly a dozen pairs of helping hands who volunteer there, nearly all of which were energized, recent college graduates. Most of the kids in their program stay with them over the years, giving their staff a chance to watch them grow and develop right before eyes.
As I left, all the kids were receiving a backpack for school, along with essential supplies. There is nothing more rewarding than watching dozens of kids smiling from ear to ear, all in anticipation to learn. How inspiring…
