As the religious holiday's are approaching and the 2011 Legislative session is shortly coming to an end, it is now time to activate our statewide support base and start making important calls to our elected officials.

I understand it has been a tough and exhausting session, and I am fully aware of the challenging economic times our state is up against. On the other hand, I feel this is no excuse to cut child programs that are already lacking sufficient funding and no excuse to deprive children of the attention they deserve.

We need your help as over a half a million kids in our state are without Health Insurance and Florida ranks close to the bottom in percentage of uninsured children.

The Senate seems to have an understanding of this issue by passing SB 1972 (Medicaid Reform) in the Senate budget committee yesterday - the bill is expected to hit the floor the week following the Holiday's. This bill includes Kidcare language that can potentially insure over 100,000 of our youngest, most vulnerable citizens. The House, however, refuses to include this language in their Medicaid Bill and the House Budget for Kidcare is $75 million less than the Senate Budget.

The Children's Movement of Florida has 5 legislative agenda items in which we are currently working on in 2011 and this issue is near the top of our priorities.

Please call me within the next week if you would like to participate in calls to local House members regarding our effort to incorporate this Kidcare language in House Medicaid Reform -- this is similar to what the Senate passed in appropriations yesterday.
