This Memorial Day: A Time to Reflect on the Past... and the Future of Armed Forces

For this upcoming Memorial Day, a recent report challenges us to  consider how our education system can help honor those Americans in uniform who have died in service of our country.

Statistics released by the Pentagon estimate that 75% of men and women between the ages of 18 and 24 are unqualified for military service. According to an article in a blog of the National Institute for Early Education Research, this high rate can be attributed to "a combination of low educational attainment, health concerns, and criminal convictions disqualifies a large number of young adults who wish to enter the service."
