Update From Our North Florida State Coordinator

Posted on 03/31/2011 @ 01:44 PM

A couple of months back, I was traveling through the northern part of the state and presenting our legislative priorities for 2011.

During that time, I mentioned to CMF supporters that one of the reasons Florida ranks 49th in percentage of uninsured children is that parents are either unaware or unfamiliar with how to enroll in KidCare. Additionally, I promised our North Florida supporters that The Children's Movement of Florida will do all that we possibly can to insure 300,000 of the over 500,000 uninsured kids in our state.

Although there is still a long way to go, we can potentially insure half (150,000) of those kids through language on Senate Bill 1972 (Medicaid Reform) that states when a parent applies for free and reduced lunch in schools, they will also receive an application for KidCare.

With the leadership and support of Senators Don Gaetz, Joe Negron, & Rene Garcia--this bill, particularly our KidCare language remains strong in the Senate as it passed unanimously in Health Regulation Wednesday morning.
