-I am contacting Governor Scott regarding Florida’s voluntary pre-kindergarten program and the detrimental action taken against the program during this past session.

-Because of the $30 million in cuts to Florida’s VPK program teacher-to-child ratios are going to worsen and more 4 year olds will be packed into each classroom.

-Continuing to gut this state’s pre-kindergarten program will mean fewer children will be prepared when they reach Kindergarten, fewer children reading at minimal proficiency in third grade, even more unable to read at grade level in 10th grade, increased costs in education remediation and will lead to increased costs for police, prosecution and prison.

-Please work to restore the $30 million proposed in your original budget to voluntary pre-K – an investment we know will have a direct effect on whether children will succeed in school and in life.

I am a member of The Children's Movement of Florida and I am writing to express my discontent with the substantial cuts suffered by Florida's infamously underfunded voluntary pre-kindergarten program this past legislative session. If you truly believe education is a priority - as you have recently stated, then restoring the $30 million cut from Florida’s voluntary pre-K budget is an opportunity where you and the rest of the Tallahassee leadership have the chance to invest in something that will continue to benefit Florida long after we are all gone
