Forget the tea party, the milk party is the way to go
Sep 29, 2010
Don't get me started on the tea party. And as far as milk, give me chocolate, not white.
But now along comes something called the milk party. It's not partisan like the tea party flakes, and I really don't have to drink milk if I don't want to.
I just have to be concerned about kids and education. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.
The milk party is actually the brainchild of the Children's Movement of Florida, led by a bunch of big wheels in the state who would like to see legislators get their priorities more in order when it comes to education and children. They are holding rallies around the state, with one scheduled Tuesday night in Fort Lauderdale, and one Wednesday night in Miami.
The idea is to get parents, civic leaders and legislators to put more priority on early childhood issues. If you've seen third grade reading FCAT scores, you know the need is there.
But there are other issues, like health and the state's pre-kindergarten program. Indeed, the milk party concentrates on five issues: Pre-k quality, health insurance for all children, screening and treatment for children with special needs, parenting, and mentoring.
The rallies feature milk and cookies. I am not making that up. And, unlike the tea party, you don't have to have vile signs or shouts that you hate government.
You don't have to hate anything. You just have to want to make things better for children and education in Florida. Like I said, a no-brainer if ever there was one.
