The Children's Movement of Florida Unveils New Public Service Announcement

New 30-second public service announcement on behalf of Florida's children will appear on television stations, websites and elsewhere in advance of the next legislative session

MIAMI, Nov. 8, 2010 – The Children's Movement of Florida on Monday officially released and began distributing a new public service announcement to build support for legislative action that significantly improves children's programs and helps make children Florida's No. 1 priority.

The Children's Movement and its partners already have received commitments to broadcast the 30-second announcement on a variety of television stations, and it is being offered to all TV outlets throughout Florida. The public service announcement also will appear on various websites and in many other settings.

"This movement can give all children in Florida a chance to reach their full potential," the message says. "Investing early is the right thing to do for them -- and for our state -- and it saves taxpayers money over the years to come."

In the wake of its extremely successful Milk Party rally tour in September and its other efforts, The Children's Movement of Florida already communicates regularly with more than 110,000 Floridians, according to David Lawrence Jr., the movement's president and co-chair, a nationally recognized children's advocate and retired publisher of The Miami Herald.

"We are determined to use every possible path to building support and momentum ahead of the legislative session that begins in March," Lawrence said. "Florida's children simply must be our first priority when deciding how our resources are spent."

The Children's Movement of Florida is supported by a broad and non-partisan coalition. The movement's 27-member statewide steering committee includes 12 Republicans, 12 Democrats and three independents.

The movement does not endorse candidates. Its activities are funded solely through private donations – no public funds are involved. The movement does not advocate new or higher statewide taxes, but rather insists that children's issues receive the highest priority and a much larger share of current resources.
