Alan Eckstein was graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He was graduated from law school in Chicago where he practiced for 14 years representing indigent clients charged with criminal offenses and clients with civil matters.

Mr. Eckstein became licensed to practice law in Florida in 1990. He moved to Key West with his son and opened a general practice with emphasis on civil and criminal litigation.

In 2006, he was appointed to serve as a private-sector voting member on the board of the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe. He chairs the Governance and Bylaws Committee.

Mr. Eckstein involvement with non-profit and community organizations in Monroe County include the Key West Chamber of Commerce, Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of the Florida Keys, Monroe Association for ReMARCable Citizens. Wesley House Family Services, Key West Business Guild, the Tourist Development Council and the Salt Ponds Advisory Committee.
