Ted Granger received his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in 1978, and later received his Juris Doctor degree from the same place. After engaging in general civil and criminal trial litigation for three years, he was hired by the Florida Senate as a legislative analyst with the Commerce Committee.

In 1986, he joined the Florida Chamber of Commerce as the vice president of government relations and, after four years, became president of the United Way of Florida. Ted chairs the Children's Summit workgroup, Children's Week and the Healthy Families Florida statewide steering committee. He also sits on the Policy Group for Florida's Families and Children, the Florida After-School Network, United Way Council of States, the Summer Conference on Children planning committee, and the Clearinghouse on Human Services.

He and his wife, Ellen, live in Tallahassee with their two sons, Colin, 19, and Nathan, 17.
