Creative Engagement Director
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, John graduated from Miami University with a B.S. in Management and Organizations. He relocated to Florida to work as an organizer in The Children’s Project of Palm Beach, a one-month pilot that paved the way for The Children’s Movement of Florida. Shortly after, John became the regional coordinator for Miami-Dade, and was responsible for bringing together more than 1,700 supporters for a rally during Tropical Storm Julia. From October 2010 to December 2011, he served as the South Florida regional coordinator, overseeing committees in five communities.
In 2012, John, now the early literacy coordinator, developed and launched a statewide program called ReadingPals. Through to the generosity of Carol and Barney Barnett from Publix Supermarkets, as well as the hard work and support of 15 United Ways, John oversees the annual engagement of nearly 2,000 volunteers and 2,500 students from pre-K to third grade. In 2014, he was named the creative engagement director, expanding his role to include graphic design, branding (and even interior design) for The Movement. Since 2014, he has overseen The Movement’s Facebook page, growing it from 12,000 to more than 55,000 “likes” through custom graphics and engaging content. He also created several social media campaigns, including #LessonsFromAKid and #CupOfLove.
In addition to his work at The Movement, John has been actively involved in music for the last decade, playing in numerous bands. He spends his spare time working as a solo singer and playing the drums, guitar, bass, piano, viola and violin.
