Jorge C. Godoy Jr.

Chief Operating Officer 

As the chief operating officer, Jorge Godoy works directly with The Movement’s CEO, as well as in support of Chair David Lawrence Jr.

A passionate advocate for increased investment in children’s early years, Jorge supervises the day-to-day work of 12 staff members in Miami and around the state.

Prior to his promotion, he was the deputy state director who oversaw the building of The Movement’s parent advocacy initiative and developed community engagement strategies aimed at increasing mission awareness throughout the state.

A graduate of The University of Pennsylvania Law School and The Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University, Jorge has gained significant experience in both the public and private sector.

He has served as an assistant federal public defender in San Juan, an assistant public defender in Philadelphia, an attorney at a multi-national firm representing prominent corporate clients, and a case manager assisting inner-city families on public assistance.

As a lead counsel, Jorge has represented thousands of individuals, including juveniles, in federal and state courts and has lectured abroad as a trial advocacy instructor before judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys and law enforcement officials.

While in law school, Jorge served as a summer law clerk in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

A reading mentor to pre-kindergarten students during the school year, Jorge was a member of the Miami-Dade Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Public Library Workgroup.

Raised in a bi-cultural and bilingual household, Jorge is a fluent Spanish speaker. He lives in South Florida with his family.
