Bosses for Babies

How This Boss Makes an Impact for Children in Florida

As the President and CEO of the Zoo Miami Foundation, Jose oversees approximately 30 full-time employees and another 30 or so part-time and seasonal employees. His team also manages over 300 volunteers for the zoo.

When Jose speaks about the importance of parental bonding, interestingly, he speaks in terms of both the animal and human worlds. Zoo Miami is renowned for its care and treatment of animals. And the same applies to its employees.  Besides the great benefits and healthcare packages offered through Zoo Miami Foundation, through Jose’s efforts, they have extended the paid maternity/paternity to 3 months to be used during the first six months post childbirth. This includes remote work opportunities.

They also allow employees to bring their child or baby to work in situations where care is not available. Employees also have flexibility regarding doctor appointments, school pick-ups, and other family needs.

The zoo's culture is one of care and family, and the same applies to the foundation. Jose and the team strive for this every day.
