ReadingPals Volunteer Training Module: The Science of Reading
At the start of the 2023-2024 school year, The Children’s Movement of Florida hosted our first statewide training module for ReadingPals volunteers representing our 15 regional programs. Our session was led by Coco Banks, teacher and reading interventionist/virtual instructor for The Lucy Project.
Using the Science of Reading, we’re beginning to learn how to adopt research-based strategies that will help your students build solid foundations to become strong, independent readers. We hope that introducing these concepts will inspire you to continue learning how to best engage with your students around literacy, and are intended to supplement your local ReadingPals trainings. If you come away with even one idea, tip, or activity you can use, then we’re on the right track.
The first half of the video includes a statewide summary and focuses on defining the Science of Reading, while the second half explores how to implement some of these strategies.
